Hi! Amie Ferris here, the chair of OREA’s Young Professionals Network.  I’m a young REALTOR® from Port Dover who is moving up through organized real estate.  I’m currently the President of the Simcoe and District Real Estate Board and it is my absolute pleasure to be involved in the creation of OREA’s new YPN.

It was a personal goal of Barb Sukkau, OREA’s president to reach out to the youth of OREA’s membership and get them more involved in their provincial association.  She speaks about the purpose of OREA’s YPN in this blog post.  Young professionals are the future of the real estate business.  REALTOR® YPN’s create a new generation of leaders, allows representation of all members, and taps into new ideas and fresh perspectives.

The OREA YPN working group has been formed and consists of around 15 REALTORS® that are meeting next week for the first time to create the Council of OREA’s Young Professionals Network and begin to plan the first networking event.

    In our industry, the best way to accelerate an understanding of where we have been and where we are and where are we going in the future is to form groups that combine seasoned Realtors with new Realtors.

Amie Ferris is a third generation REALTOR® born and raised in Port Dover, Ontario. At the age of 25, Amie joined her mother and grandfather in the real estate industry in 2007 where she met her now husband and REALTOR®, Ray Ferris. In 2011, Amie and Ray opened their own Real Estate Company in Port Rowan, Ontario – Erie’s Edge Real Estate Ltd. Real Estate is Amie’s passion and only business interest. As a young REALTOR® moving up through organized real estate she understands the needs for a group such as the OREA YPN to get young REALTORS® involved in the leadership roles at the local, provincial and national levels of real estate and provide them with mentorship from current and past organized real estate represenatives. Amie has been involved in organized real estate since the beginning of her career. She became a member of organized real estate in 2008 as a committee member, 2009 as a committee chair and as a Director of her local board in 2010. She is currently the President-Elect of the Simcoe and District Real Estate Board.
