Branding – Start With the Why

Inman Connect New York, a conference for brokers, REALTORS® and those in the real estate business taking place Wednesday January 11th – Friday January 13th is full of engaging speakers on technology, and social media.  For updates, many people are live blogging from the event and you can follow along on Twitter at #ICNY.

I attended a session today on branding featuring Teri Conrad (Brand Strategist), Debra Trappen (Director, Career Development, Coldwell Banker), Michael McClure (Co-founder and CEO, VerifiedAgent.com) and Matthew Shadbolt (Director of Interactive Product and Marketing, The Corcoran Group).

The key takeaway: Start with the WHY.

Check out this video of Simon Sinek, How Great Leaders Inspire Action:

“People don’t buy what you do, they buy WHY you do it” – Teri Conrad, a past REALTOR®, now a brand strategist.

Set your path and build your structure around that.  Figure out what truly motivates you, what makes you different, and start permeating that.  Build everything on top of your passions and what truly motivates you.

When asked, How do you inspire people with your digital presence? Michael McClure answered, “The Corcoran Group inspires many people with their digital presence.  They create a connection. Other people talk favorably about their brand.  Watch what they do if you want to see the best in branding and real estate.”  If you can truly create a connection in the minds of consumers, you’re pulling so many of them close to you.

Take the acronym, CEO for example.  We’re not talking Chief Executive Officer.  We’re talking Customer Experience Optimization.  For example, when you send your customer something, would they take a picture of it and share if on Facebook with no direction?  Think about it.  Imagine inspiring your clients such that they promote you, naturally.  Now that’s optimizing on the customer experience.

Always start with the WHY.
