Canadian REALTORS® to benefit from .REALTOR Domain

The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA), the exclusive licensee of the REALTOR® trademark in Canada, has entered into a partnership with the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), its American counterpart. As a result of this arrangement, REALTOR® members of CREA might soon be able to join their American colleagues in using the domain .REALTOR, making the trademark truly North American in scope. NAR has applied for the branded .REALTOR top-level domain (TLD) as an alternative to the familiar and commonly used .com, .net and .org or .ca and .com in Canada. This initiative will allow both American and Canadian REALTORS® to market their services better and identify themselves more clearly to consumers.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the organization that controls the creation and distribution of domain names globally, is expected to make a decision on the application sometime in 2013.
