Election to the 2012/2013 CREA Board of Directors

As a provincial Association, we received notice of the CREA Director Elections for the 2012-2013 electoral year. If you’re interested, here is the information we recieved to get you started.

The Director-at-Large elections will take place at CREA’s Annual General Meeting in Ottawa on Saturday, March 24, 2012. The Regional Director elections will take place in the region.

The deadline for candidate submissions is Tuesday, January 24, 2012.

Business People


There are two categories of directorship for which qualified members can let their names stand for election to the Board of Directors of The Canadian Real Estate Association; namely, as Director-at-Large or Regional Director. Members may submit their names for either Director-at-Large or Regional Director, but not both.

This year, the following positions are open for election:


Three Directors-at-Large positions, each for a two-year term:

Directors-at-Large will be elected at the CREA Annual General Meeting on Saturday, March 24, 2012 in Ottawa, Ontario by all CREA voting delegates at the Annual General Meeting.

Regional Director:

Four Regional Directors – one from each of the following regions, each for a two-year term:

• Alberta • Saskatchewan • Ontario
• The Atlantic Region (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland & Labrador)

Regional Directors will be elected by the CREA voting delegates of Boards and/or Provincial/Territorial Associations from within the regions in question. Elections will be conducted at a time preceding the Annual General Meeting, which is scheduled for March 24th & 25th, 2012 in Ottawa, Ontario.

Alternatively, an election may be conducted locally in the region if a majority of the candidates who have declared their interest in running for Regional Director in that region so desire. If elections are to be conducted in the region, the majority of the declared candidates in that region must advise CREA’s Chief Executive Officer by indicating their preference in that regard. The Chief Executive Officer shall then set the date and place for holding the election.


Persons wishing to be elected either as a Director-at-Large or a Regional Director must:

1. Have a minimum of three (3) years experience as a director of a Board or Association;
2. Have been a REALTOR® (ie a licensed real estate practitioner who is a member of CREA) for at least five (5) years;
3. In the case of a Regional Director, be licensed in that Region.

The responsibilities of the directors are set out in CREA Rule 6, attached.

The candidacy forms for both the Regional Director and Director-at-Large positions may be accessed on REALTOR Link® and submitted electronically to CREA. The forms must be received by CREA no later than Tuesday, January 24, 2012.
