The statistics are astonishing. As at May 6, 2014, there were 24,027 users on the College online education discussion forums who contributed to 65,085 discussion threads and 83,407 posts. And, in the last 24 hours, there have been three new threads, 25 new posts, and nine new users. This is a lot of information being exchanged between students, and between students and the forum facilitator, a curriculum staff member.
What type of questions appear on the forum?
One of the most common questions relates to measurements, a key topic in real estate, particularly with negotiations and drafting offers. For example, a recent post asked how to calculate a trapezoid, a four-sided figure with two sides parallel.
Total Area = Sum of Parallel Sides x ½ Perpendicular Height
• the two parallel sides are 45 feet and 65 feet
• the perpendicular height is 24 feet
(45′ + 65′) x (1/2 x 24)
110 x 12 = 1,320 square feet
(½ is .5 on the calculator)
Another common question relates to exams, specifically, when are exam results available. Exam results are posted in students’ My Portfolio accounts within five to seven business days of writing the exam. Marks are not provided over the phone.
If you have any questions about course content, post the question a discussion forum or use the search function to locate previously asked and answered questions.
Access the discussion forums through your My Portfolio account, click on “My OREA Community (Discussion Forum for Courses)” on the left side of your screen, and then click on the “Forums” tab at the top of your screen. The “Search” button is located on the top right of your screen. If you do not have a profile, you will not be able to access the forums. You must create a profile first.
