Government Relations

Improving Effectiveness through Relationship Building

Business people talking

While the name “government relations” may seem to imply that OREA only works with elected officials and public servants, did you know that OREA’s GR team also works closely with other real estate stakeholder groups? This allows us to share information and keep our ear to the ground with regards to developments in government and real estate.

Over the years, OREA has hosted Real Estate Roundtable meetings with other real estate groups including: appraisers, title insurance professionals, home inspectors, home builders, just to name a few. In government relations, there is often strength in numbers. Reaching out to other real estate groups allows us to build consensus in the industry and helps us demonstrate to the government that our policies are well thought out, well researched, and have broad support.

Earlier this year, OREA became a member of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC). The Chamber is a well-respected business policy and advocacy network. The Chamber undertakes research and makes recommendations to the Government of Ontario that will help ensure a thriving and prosperous business environment for our province. This past spring, the OCC passed a policy motion in support of personal real estate corporations. The Tillsonburg Chamber of Commerce endorsed our proposal and helped get the motion passed.

Building broad support for our policies and proposals is key to our industry, and allows us to improve the effectiveness of our advocacy efforts at Queen’s Park.
