Meet the New Minister of Energy, the Honourable Glenn Thibeault

TGlenn_Thibeaulthis week, we will continue profiling ministers in Premier Wynne’s cabinet with the new Minister of Energy, the Honourable Glenn Thibeault.

Minister Thibeault was elected to the Ontario Legislature in 2015 representing the riding of Sudbury.  He previously served as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC), the Honourable Glen Murray. Minister Thibeault also served at the federal level as a Member of Parliament for Sudbury from 2008 to 2015. Prior to politics, he served as a director with the United Way.

The Ministry of Energy is responsible for the electricity generation and transmission in the province. OREA works closely with the ministry on a number of issues that impact housing, most notably on the Home Energy Rating and Disclosure (HER&D) proposal. OREA has been very active on this file, making numerous submissions to the ministry.

According to the Ministry of Energy, a working group will be formed by the government to review how HER&D can be implemented in Ontario. As experts in the housing market, OREA will continue to represent Ontario’s 65,000 REALTORS®, as well as home owners and home buyers in consultations on this proposal.

On behalf of our members, OREA would like to extend congratulations to Minister Thibeault on his appointment.
