New Government Relations Committee meets for the first time

The 2013 Government Relations Committee (GRC), chaired by  Richard Leroux, met for the first time yesterday to discuss REALTOR® issues and set up priorities for the next year.  

OREA’s GRC is mandated with identifying legislative and regulatory issues that might affect Ontario REALTORS® as well as the real estate industry and advocating on behalf of OREA members at Queen’s Park.

As usual, this year’s team consists of politically engaged volunteer REALTORS® from across Ontario. They are: Deborah Abraham (Ross) from Toronto Karen Cox from Kimberley, Mike Douglas from Barrie, Brian Graham from North Bay, Joe Hough from London, Richard Leroux from Timmins (Chair), Donna Mathewson from Sarnia, Linda McCallum from Ottawa, Susan Nish from Kingston, Von Palmer, Chief Government and Public Affairs Officer from the Toronto Real Estate Board (TREB), Bob Pfaff from Thunder Bay, Johnmark Roberts from Toronto, Robert Storring from Napanee and Patricia Verge from Ottawa.

The committee discussed issues including OREA’s recent victory including an amendment to the Electronic Commerce Act  in the Ontario Budget bill; OREA’s work on preventing the spread of the municipal land transfer tax; marijuana grow operations; personal real estate corporations; rthe Condominium Act review and many more.

Every member at the table had a wealth of REALTOR® expertise to contribute to the discussion and help set a clear direction for OREA’s government relations staff.
