Ontario Budget Will be Tabled May 1

2011 Ontario Election is Oct 6th

This week, Ontario Minister of Finance Charles Sousa announced that the Liberal government would table their budget on May 1st, 2014. This means Ontario could face a confidence vote as early as May 7th. The result of the vote will determine whether the Liberals will enjoy another year in government or if the electorate will go to the polls for an early summer election.

Predicting the likelihood of an election in Ontario’s minority parliament is no easy feat. While the Progressive Conservatives have already committed to voting against the budget, the New Democrats have said they will read and review the budget before making their final decision.

The Ontario Liberals have been in government since October 2011. In 2012 and 2013 the NDP negotiated with the governing Liberals in exchange for their party’s support.
