OREA attends AMO conference

AMOIn support of the OREA’s proposal to create a new property assessment class for brownfield properties under remediation, government relations staff recently attended the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s (AMO) annual general conference.

OREA’s proposal to create a new tax assessment class for brownfield properties under remediation would provide a financial incentive to brownfield owners during the remediation phase of redevelopment. Provided that the owner could demonstrate that the property was under remediation, the brownfield property could receive the new tax assessment class, saving the owner money on their property tax bills.

AMO’s annual conference is attended by all three provincial party leaders, ministers, MPPs and government staff. OREA used the conference as an opportunity to network with AMO staff and provincial politicians.

OREA will be working to set up meetings with AMO in the near future to discuss the association’s brownfield proposal.
