On Tuesday, June 3rd the leaders of Ontario’s three main political parties got together for the 2014 Leader’s Debate. The debate featured six questions covering everything from economic issues to job creation and hydro rates.
Although the housing market and/or REALTORS® were not explicitly mentioned by any of the three party leaders, the evening was an opportunity to determine the focus of each leader’s message.
All three leaders focused on issues surrounding jobs, the economy, and the financial burden on the average family. This narrative would support our push to say no to the spread of the Municipal Land Transfer Tax as our research has shown that the tax has caused a reduction in jobs and economic growth caused by the tax in the City of Toronto.
Although no leader clearly won the debate, the momentum gained or lost can have a significant impact on the last week of the campaign as the election quickly approaches on June 12th. We will be following along closely and, as always, encourage you to do the same by contacting your local candidates, informing them of OREA’s position on the MLTT, using the social media tag #NOtoMLTT, and by visiting www.donttaxmydream.ca!
