OREA is thrilled to welcome Sylvia Pena as our new Government Relations Specialist.
Sylvia brings her political and government expertise straight from Queen’s Park where she spent a year with the Ontario Legislature Internship Programme (OLIP). There she worked for two members of the provincial Legislature – Liberal Greg Sorbara (former Minister of Finance) and NDP Michael Prue (MPP from Beaches-East York and a Finance critic). Sylvia’s experience in the offices of these veteran MPPs will be of great use while advocating on behalf Ontario REALTORS® at Queen’s Park.
As part of her intern experience, Sylvia also worked as a Research Assistant for Ipsos Reid during the 2011 Ontario general election, where she gained a valuable experience in political polling.
In addition to her passion for politics, Sylvia has a great fondness for languages. Fluent in English, Spanish and French, she recently returned from France where she worked as a Teaching Assistant at Lyon Academy. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from McMaster University in Political Science.
Sylvia will be working closely with Matthew Thornton, Director of Government Relations, on a variety of REALTOR® issues as well as organizing the 2013 Political Affairs Conference coming up in November.
