Residents of Simcoe North will go to the polls twice this fall for the federal general election and the provincial by-election. Earlier this month, Premier Wynne called a by-election in the riding for September 3rd.
The previous MPP for Simcoe North, Garfield Dunlop, stepped down to allow new Progressive Conservative party leader Patrick Brown a chance to gain a seat in the Ontario Legislature. Mr. Brown won the leadership in May. Although the Liberal, NDP and Green parties have announced they will be running candidates, Simcoe North is considered a Tory stronghold.
The September 3rd election date means that the new MPP would be in the legislature for the new session beginning September 14th.
