This year as I prepare to send out holiday cards, I realize the importance of the time and effort I have made to get out there and network this year. Sadly I will not be able to attend the YPN Learn Network Grow event today in Sudbury. I understand that events like this are important for so many reasons.
I recently sat down with a salesperson in my area who has been in business for many years, who contacted me because he wanted to start to develop an online profile. As we sat in my office, I explained the importance of being “Googleable”. We sat down and Googled him… everything but information about him and his business showed up. So we started the process of creating an online profile for him (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Active Rain, personal website, etc.). During our session, we talked over Starbucks. In our conversation we agreed that it is not all about your online profile (although very important). It is about having an image online and in person.
Going to an “in person” networking event we agreed is critical to ones success. After all, before online there was only in person! When you first enter into this profession it is hard to go out and meet other REALTORS® because we are all so busy. A local or regional networking even is a great place to get out there and learn! Going to a networking event for real estate professionals is always a great time. You get to share insider information with real estate professionals who are for the most part, like-minded. You always get to take away a different style/approach or philosophy to the sales situations we all face. You get to meet people in person and finally put a face to the name, and maybe, just maybe, get a referral or a transaction out of it!

Me… I would want to talk about the lost art of the handshake! I would want to meet great real estate professionals that I can look forward to working with in 2013 and beyond. And lastly I would share my love for the profession! I love what I do for a living!
