Did you know that the Ontario Real Estate Association has been a proud sponsor of the Ontario Legislature Internship Programme for more than twenty years?
The programme is a well-respected, non-partisan internship program that provides MPPs with highly qualified assistants. The programme offers young graduates real world experience in the policy making process and invaluable insight into Ontario politics. Over the course of ten months, each intern is placed with a government and opposition MPP. More interestingly, the interns interview and select their MPPs rather than the other way around.
OLIP alumni go on to pursue exciting careers in a number of fields including politics, the public service, academia, government relations and etcetera. If you walk through the halls of Queen’s Park, you’re almost guaranteed to bump into a former intern.
OREA’s very own Matthew Thornton (2007-2008) and Sylvia Pena (2011-2012) are proud graduates of the programme. Both Matthew and Sylvia were first exposed to REALTOR® issues through OREA’s sponsorship presentations.
Since its inception in 1975, interns have seen eight premiers and governments of all stripes- Liberal, PC and NDP.
The GR team looks forward to meeting with this year’s interns in February.
