Dear OREA Members:
I’ve got some great news.
Yesterday Bill 104, the Tax Fairness for Realtors Act, 2017 passed 2nd reading at Queen’s Park.
This means that REALTORS® are one step closer to forming personal real estate corporations!
This issue has been very important to me. For several years, we have been working tirelessly to ensure that REALTORS® are treated fairly in Ontario and given the ability to incorporate. There is no reason why you shouldn’t have the ability to form a personal corporation.
This is why I am so happy about yesterday’s result. We have been close two times before, but never this close.
As OREA President, I want to thank you for your support of our Tax Fairness campaign. Our work on this issue has illustrated how strong the REALTOR® lobby is at Queen’s Park when we speak with one voice.
But there is still more work to do. But it wouldn’t be possible without our big step forward yesterday.
Yours sincerely,
Ettore Cardarelli, President
OREA

Dear OREA Members:
I spent twenty-one years as an MPP at Queen’s Park.
In that time, I can’t recall ever seeing a more impressive, sophisticated, genuine grassroots effort in support of a Private Member’s Bill then I did with our Tax Fairness campaign.
It made my heart leap when I heard MPPs from all three parties recounting personal memories about how important REALTORS® are to their communities.
Many of my former colleagues told me yesterday how impressed they were by our campaign. It doesn’t get much better than that.
It also showed the trust that many MPPs have in their local REALTORS®. An MPP is more likely to listen to a trusted REALTOR® from their community than a dozen high-priced consultants armed with power points.
As President Ettore mentioned, we still have more work to do.
This morning my team and I met to start planning those important next steps. Our goal is to convince the government to bring Bill 104 forward at committee and back to the Legislature for 3rd reading and one final vote.
It’s going to be tough. Not many Private Member’s Bills ever see the light of day.
But thanks to you, and the nearly 10,000 REALTORS® who emailed their MPP in support of PRECs, Bill 104 is one step closer to becoming law.
Sincerely,
Tim Hudak, CEO
OREA
