We live in a binary world. Dualities, mostly opposites, reign supreme. For example, there is good and there is evil. There are mothers and daughters. Lies and truths. The French and the English. The general and the specific. The Leafs and the Habs. The teacher and student. The left brain and the right brain. The ‘either’ and the ‘or’.
All about us is a confrontation of choices. What to do? To do it or do nothing? We attempt solutions to the problem at hand, fundamentally by comparing or contrasting two things. If you perceive more than two, then you’re being fanciful, lazy, or lacking focus.
Agreed that your choice must consider process and consequences. Our decisions must be practical, fair, and empathetic. But, in sum, you must decide one or the other.
I think I’m right, not wrong. However, how do I reconcile with Mohammed Ali’s unbalanced moniker, ‘Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee’?
